Okay, so it's been like.... 3 years or so. What better time could there be to randomly start uploading stuff again? And what better drawing to first upload than something grotesquely weird and pretty at the same time?
The story is this: In this thread on the TVTropes fora ([link]), fleb suggested that any series for children can apparently be turned into something "Darker And Edgier". ( Seriously, Loonatics Unleashed? What? WHAT? ) LordTheNightKnight then went on to suggest an adaptation of the Care Bears set in a dystopian future, with the Power Of Love of the Care Bears being the only thing left to rescue humankind. And for some reason, that gave me a spark of inspiration. Long story short, I came up with a whole premise for the story, a name, two characters, and an art style that is close to something I can't remember to save my life. The premise would be this: "Japan, 2730: The world is shaken up by a recent war. The economy is in shambles, families are struggling to get by, leaders try to restore order, but chaos and depression do not seem to want to diminish. Suicide rates are catastrophic, the homicide rates aren't much better, and the aftereffects of biological weapons used in the war are causing mutations and sicknesses of all sorts in many. People are a mess, and few have any hope for the future. One of these few is the little Kikuma Tai, a ten year-old boy. Tai is a mutant who curiously grew round, furry ears, a short and stubby tail and a small nose with a black tip, giving him the vague appearance of a humanoid teddy bear. Mutants are avoided by the people who remained healthy, so he constantly covers his ears with a green cap that his mother gave him before she passed away. In spite of everything, Tai remains a generally cheerful child. One day, as school starts again for him, a new girl joins the class after she failed the last year. The eleven year-old Kaijin Ai is a frail and gloomy girl who failed class because she refuses to work. She also refuses to speak a single word and acts cold and distant to anyone. In these times, this is far from unusual. However, there is something about her that strikes Tai as he first sees her: round, furry ears, a small nose with a black spot, and a tail. In the coming days, he slowly tries to gain her trust, but to no avail. Until one day, he reveals his ears to her. As different as they are, they are one and the same. On that day, Ai spoke her first word for years. And in the very moment she did, a powerful magic revealed itself. They are not mutants. They were chosen at birth by the spirit of the forest and endowed with the magic to touch the hearts of mankind. With the power of hope and the power of love, together they go into the world to gather all the other chosen children and purify the hearts of everyone." So, yeah. The thing that in the end caused me to resurrect my DeviantArt account is a dark version of the Care Bears jokingly suggested by someone on a whim. How... beautiful? I'm aware that a few things are sloppily drawn, but criticism on the coloring is welcome. ... hum. I wonder how people will react to my sudden reappearance. Hugs all around? |

Hmmm... Advanced critique? Well, if Ai were to stand up she'd be a lot taller than Tai, probably a little too much for being just a year older.
